Lugano Airport is a regional airport located 4 kilometres from the town of the same name in Switzerland close to the border with Italy. Lugano is 80 kilometres from Milan. Since 1938 the airport existed as an aerodrome with a dirt runway, in 1960 the first paved runway was built.
Currently, the length of the asphalt runway is 1,420 metres, which allows most private aircraft, with the exception of VIP airliners. There are literally few scheduled flights from Lugano Airport, the airport is mainly used for private and general aviation flights. Lugano Airport can be used for international flights - there is a customs and border control point in the terminal. The airport is not open 24 hours a day; opening hours are based on scheduled flights.
