History of Gulfstream G280

The G280's journey began with its predecessor, the G200, originally known as the "Astra Galaxy." Designed in the late 1980s by Israel Aircraft Industries and Galaxy Aerospace, the aircraft was renamed the G200 after Gulfstream acquired Galaxy Aerospace in 2001. Production of the G200 continued until Gulfstream introduced the G280. Planning for the G280 started seven years earlier to upgrade the G200 and better compete with rivals like the Bombardier Challenger 300 and Cessna Citation X. The G280, initially named G250, was later rebranded to avoid negative connotations in certain cultures. Full certification was received in 2012 from both Israeli and US aviation authorities. The G280 was launched in 2008 and delivered to customers starting in 2012, showcasing Gulfstream's commitment to innovation and excellence in aviation design.
