The Cessna M2 was announced in 2011 and a flight test programme began in March 2012. The Cessna M2 is based on two models Cessna CJ1 and Cessna CJ2, which are currently out of production. The Cessna M2 was certified in 2013 and received type certificates in the US and Europe.
The cabin layout of the Citation M2 business jet is designed for 5 passengers, but a group of 4 passengers will be most comfortable. In the club area between the seats there are comfortable tables. The 5th passenger's seat is opposite the entrance. For this model, engineers have developed new anatomy seats, more comfortable and with numerous adjustments. Various leather, fabric and veneer colour options are available. The kitchen is located in the bow. Cold snacks and drinks can be served during the flight. Flight attendant service is not provided due to the compact cabin size.
The aircraft is equipped with state-of-the-art avionics, including a Garmin SVT synthetic vision system.

There are 3 generations of Cessna M2. First was produced from 2013 to 2017, average price on the pre-owned market is 3.5 million – 4.5 million USD. Deliveries of second generations started in 2018 and ended in 2022. These jets are priced at around 4.5 million to 5 million USD. Currently third generation is in production – Cessna M2 Gen 3. Prices are around 5.5 million USD and depend on the additional options installed.
As Cessna M2 is a small light jet there is space on board only for lavatory and not a normal bathroom. Being designed for regional flight of 1 to 2 hours most passengers find just a lavatory more than enough.
