Two international airports close to Rome are Fiumicino Airport and Ciampino Airport.
Fiumicino Airport
Fiumicino Airport (IATA: FCO, ICAO: LIRF), named after the world-famous Italian artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci, is located 30 km from the centre of Rome. The airport was opened in 1961 and currently has 4 runways. The airport has four terminals and is mainly designed to cater for scheduled flights. Due to the high traffic, the departure and arrival of private flights is problematic and authorisation is only possible if Ciampino Airport is closed. In this case, a number of restrictions would be imposed on the arrival or departure of a private flight.
Ciampino Airport
Ciampino International Airport (IATA: CIA, ICAO: LIRA) was opened in 1916 and is located 15 km from the centre of Rome, which allows you to spend a minimum of time travelling from the city to the airport. The airport currently serves domestic, charter and business flights. The airport has a dedicated VIP terminal for private aircraft passengers.
